As evening approaches, our drivers will set up the camp while the cooks prepare dinner. Surrounded by the sound of the waves, we will celebrate the beginning of our journey across the Island of Bliss.

After lunch, we take a walk and meet one of Socotra’s local legends: Abdullah, known from the popular travel show.
He will show you how to catch pufferfish, stingrays, lobsters, sea urchins, oysters and mussels — and may even invite you to taste some of them fresh by the shore.

Meeting a Local Celebrity
Travelling in comfortable, air-conditioned Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4 vehicles, with three to four guests per car, we head to Qalansiyah, a coastal town in the north-west of the island.
Nearby lies Detwah Lagoon, one of Socotra’s most iconic landscapes. Its sweeping white-sand beach and impossibly turquoise water seem to announce: "You have arrived on an island where everything is different."

As the sun sets, thousands of tiny white crabs begin to appear along the shoreline, creating the perfect setting for one of the most atmospheric and romantic nights of the journey.
A Night on the Island
Before sunset, those who wish can join local captains for a fishing trip. In Socotra, fishing is wonderfully simple: cast the line, and it often feels as though the fish bite immediately.

Along the way, we pass dramatic cliffs, cucumber trees and flocks of seabirds. Dolphins are also often seen swimming alongside the boats.

In the morning, we climb to a cliff overlooking Detwah Lagoon. At the top, we will find one of Socotra’s most recognisable symbols — the iconic bottle tree.
It is also a perfect spot for striking photographs. While we enjoy the sunrise, our team will pack up the camp and prepare breakfast. This is our daily rhythm: you relax and take in the experience, while we take care of everything else.

We begin the morning with a swim before saying goodbye to one of Socotra’s most beautiful beaches. We then return to Qalansiyah aboard our now-familiar boat and transfer to our 4x4 vehicles.

We watch the sunset from the summit of the dune. With its sweeping views and soft golden light, this is one of the best photography locations in Socotra.

After lunch and a refreshing swim in a natural freshwater pool, we drive to the southern coast of the island and the dazzling white Stero Dunes.
As we climb to the top, an extraordinary landscape unfolds around us: the turquoise ocean to the left, rolling white dunes stretching ahead, and a dramatic mountain ridge rising steeply to the right.

We visit a local sheikh and learn more about the everyday life and traditions of Socotra’s modern Bedouin communities.
This is also one of the best places to purchase dragon’s blood — the deep-red resin of the dragon’s blood tree, traditionally used as a natural remedy for skin conditions, wounds, ulcers and digestive problems.

In the morning, we explore the Firmihin Nature Reserve, home to one of Socotra’s most remarkable dragon’s blood tree forests.

Our journey continues to Homhil Plateau, where dragon’s blood trees, bottle trees and frankincense trees grow side by side.
This is one of the best places in Socotra for relaxed hiking and photography, surrounded by rare endemic plants and breathtaking panoramic views.

We then continue across Momi Plateau, passing through dramatic landscapes dotted with Socotra’s remarkable bottle trees. Their unusual swollen trunks and sculptural shapes make this one of the most distinctive and photogenic parts of the island.

A 30-minute walk along a mountain trail takes us to a series of natural freshwater pools. Surrounded by otherworldly scenery, this is the perfect place for a refreshing swim and a natural massage beneath the gentle cascades of crystal-clear emerald water.

To end the day, we travel to what feels like the edge of the world: Ras Erissel, the easternmost point of Socotra, where the waters of the Indian Ocean meet the Arabian Sea.

We then set off for Hoq Cave, considered one of the most beautiful caves in Socotra. The hike takes approximately 1–1.5 hours each way, with an elevation gain of around 350 metres.
Inside, you will discover impressive stalactites and stalagmites, underground pools and ancient inscriptions. Be sure to bring a head torch, a tripod and a camera flash, as there is no natural light inside the cave.

In the evening, we return to civilisation and spend the night at a hotel in Hadibo.

Returning to Hadibo
After breakfast, we drive to Dihamri Coral Reef. Here, you can swim with a mask, go snorkelling or diving with rented equipment, or simply relax in the warm waters of the ocean.

I started dreaming about visiting Socotra several years ago, when I first heard about it from people in one of my travel groups. They spoke about Socotra with such excitement — as if it were another planet and a completely unique experience.
My first attempt to get there didn’t work out, because buying a plane ticket turned out to be a real challenge. So for my next holiday, I took it seriously and booked my place six months in advance. And it was absolutely worth it!
The tour was very full and active, but still comfortable in terms of the pace. It is one of those places where even a natural night owl wakes up at sunrise, just to have enough time to truly experience the beauty and power of the island.
Every day we visited several locations, and every day felt completely different from the one before. I was especially impressed by the endless white sand dunes. Our group was completely alone there, surrounded by all that incredible beauty. We were very lucky.
At the mountain lakes, we met a few other groups, so perhaps it is better to travel outside the busiest months. But honestly, even the presence of other tourists did not make the experience any less special for me.
The people of Socotra are incredibly open and kind. And I think it was largely thanks to their warmth, care and sincerity that this journey became so unforgettable.

If you are tired of city life and want to escape far from civilization, Socotra is the place to go.
We visited in December 2024 and are still absolutely delighted with the experience. The local team was attentive, welcoming and genuinely focused on making every guest feel comfortable.
We stayed in spacious, comfortable glamping tents and enjoyed fishing, exotic plants, extraordinary landscapes and the sea. I am not usually a big fan of safaris or long drives in 4x4 vehicles, but here everything came together perfectly.
